Tranmere Rovers Update
By Media Team on 25/02/2020
Some supporters have been contacting the club about tonight’s Sky Bet League One game with Tranmere Rovers at the Montgomery Waters Meadow, to see if the flooding will affect the game.
The ground staff have been working very hard on the pitch and despite the recent rainfall it is relatively dry at present and the main surrounding road networks (A5 and A49) are all reporting no issues therefore there are no concerns about the game. We have also spoken to West Mercia Police and other stakeholders and they are happy with the game going ahead as planned.
The weather forecast is showing the chance of some light showers this afternoon but potentially to be dry this evening.
With the flooding in the town centre there will be a number of changes to the usual matchday travel plan.
Matchday Shuttle Buses - Will start from Shirehall only, and not from Raven’s Meadow.
No other buses from the town centre will be running due to road closures.
Trains – Shrewsbury Railway Station has of this morning now been closed due to rising flood levels affecting the tracks so we would advise against attempting to travel by train to Shrewsbury.
Meole Brace P&R (SY3 9NB)– Will be open as normal for both home and Tranmere fans to park for £5 which is a short walk from there to the stadium under the railway bridge and along Superblues Way which is dry at present.
Pritchards and The Brooklands (Wild Pig) are also both open for match day parking at £5.
If you are driving we would advise giving yourself extra time for your journey. With road closures around Shrewsbury town centre this is having a knock on effect on the volume of traffic on the roads surrounding the stadium (A5/A49 and Oteley Road etc) which has seen heavier traffic over the last few days especially at peak times.
Please check your route before setting off as the River Severn is expected to peak later today at record levels. The B4380 at Atcham is currently closed meaning that route isn’t available at present.
